This South Korean coffee has gained huge popularity on social media as people unable to get their fancy-pants-coffee are forced to look closer to home to replicate their caffeine fix. Best described as a whipped cappuccino turned upside down (the coffee being whipped, not the milk) this recipe is simple to make, calling on the dreaded instant coffee and it’s magical properties to create a thick, creamy coffee.

DALGONA COFFEE

Serves 2
2 tbsp instant coffee
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp boiling water
400ml milk

PROCESS

  1. Add the instant coffee, sugar and water to a mixing bowl. Whisk by hand or a use a mixer until it turns light brown, fluffy and reaches a stiff peak.

  2. Pour your milk into two glasses or cups and spoon dollops of the frothy coffee mixture on top.

TIPS

  • For a boozy kick, add 1tbsp of Kahlua, Baileys or whiskey to the mixture before whisking.

  • Use heated milk for a warming latte or add ice cubes to cold milk for an iced dalgona.
